  14. I just purchased a Diamond Speedstar 24X to be used on
  15. a 386/33 (w/ 8MB RAM) with Adaptec 1542B SCSI controller card:

  17. AMI BIOS Settings: 0 wait state and Shadow RAM enabled.
  18. Video BIOS: 8 bit BIOS, IRQ2 enabled.

  20. Problem:
  21. When I attempt to run WINDOWS 3.1 using Speedstar 24X video
  22. driver for 800x600 in 32K colors, the system behaves strangely,
  23. Under this mode, sometimes windows never comes up .. it just
  24. quits saying "Error loading GDI.EXE".
  25. On other occasions (under same mode), the program manager
  26. comes up, but it  displays error when attempting to
  27. display the group ... "The Group xxx.grp file is corrupted
  28. do you want to recreate it ?" ... and when I say NO ... the
  29. prgram manager does finally come up, but with the groups
  30. missing. Moreover some of the icons change from color to
  31. black and white.

  33. If I change to 800x600 at 256 colors it again gives me
  34. some of the above problems (but it never quits windows
  35. like it did above).

  37. Under 800x600 16 color mode  ... it all works fine.

  39. Tech Support was dumbfounded ... and not very helpful

  41. Oh yes ! and I did try to bring up windows using
  42. 640x480 (16.7 Million colors) and it displays the message
  43. "EXTREMELY LOW IN MEMORY" !!!

  45. This is very frustating to say the least ... since I
  46. bought this card to take advantage of the billions
  47. and billions of colors it promised.

  49. Any help would be appreciated, so I don't have
  50. to return it.
