  24. The general rule of thumb here is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". You
  25. have not given us any indication in your post about why you want to tinker
  26. with your SYSGEN settings. If you were experiencing a specific problem
  27. on your system, an appropriate question might be "When I try to INSTALL
  28. an image, I get the message 'global page table full'. Which SYSGEN 
  29. parameter do I need to change?". Then we could help you.

  31. Another rule of thumb is that if you don't fully understand exactly what
  32. a particular SYSGEN parameter does, don't change it. You can easily render
  33. your system unbootable by playing with SYSGEN parameters when you don't
  34. have a firm grasp as to their function. Therefore, I recommend that you
  35. don't tinker with SYSGEN unless you have some specific problem you are
  36. trying to correct. I also recommend that you read up on the use of
  37. AUTOGEN and use it to tune your system; with your limited VMS experience
  38. I'm sure that AUTOGEN will do a much better job of tuning your system
  39. than you would be able to do yourself. It will also protect you from
  40. yourself.

  44. The problem is that you haven't even asked a question. It's impossible to
  45. look at a listing of SYSGEN parameters, without any additional information
  46. about the system's workload, and make any recommendations. Ask us a specific
  47. question, or at least tell us why you want to tinker with SYSGEN, and
  48. maybe we can help you.

  50. I did take the time to glance at some of your key parameters. The only
  51. thing that looked suspicious to me was that MAXPROCESSCNT and BALSETCNT
  52. seemed to be very low for most systems. But without knowing anything at
  53. all about your worload, it's impossible to tell. These are two parameters
  54. that AUTOGEN will maintain for you, though, so I repeat my recommendation
  55. that you depend on AUTOGEN.
