- Hy folks!!
-
- I switch a few weeks ago one of my 2 HD (40mb to 130mb... Haaaaa the joy
- of 170mb total now!), and since I didn't want to much headeaches (yeah,
- right!) I put it as the 2nd physical drive(slave, btw that one is a
- Maxtor 7120AT, the master is a... heeee, Seagate maybe? and using FAT
- only).
-
- On COLD boot, I have no problem what so ever, but as soon as I do a WARM
- boot (3 finger salute, the RESET switch, or DUAL BOOT) then the troubles
- start... (get a "D: drive failure, push F1" after waiting 2 to 3 minutes
- on the "WAIT..." after the reboot, I press it, then another 2 minutes to
- get a Non-bootable disk message, press any key and then the system
- restarts). I called Maxtor and it seems to be a knowned
- incompatibilty(sp??) problem of those 2 brands set as I have them, the
- solution is to switch. At that time, I thought that I could live with
- this...
-
- So after 2 weeks of this I am getting fed up, so I am thinking of
- switching them around BUT I don't feel like having to re-install every
- thing (i.e for partition size reason, I would be stuck with a D drive of
- only 40mb wich is NOT enough for putting everything I want on D, it is
- at the moment 55) and then having to redo every object related to those
- prg since I would have to make my application/data drive as E.
-
- So I'm wondering, can the BOOT MANAGER take a 2nd physical drive and
- make the system beleive that's the one to boot DOS from, i.e I would
- like to install on the first physical drive the BM partion, OS/2 system
- partition and the other's partition I would need (Drives letter D,
- E[this would be the swap partition], and F),then the second physical
- drive would be 10mb containing the DOS boot and 30mb non-OS/2 compat
- drive, hopefully this could be set as G( or can someone tell me what this
- one would be??).
-
- Is this possible?? and if so, can I easilly back-up my wps and reestore
- it to it's present setting? (most probably using wpsbackup utilities?).
- I can of imagine in advance that the rest could have to be redone a bit
- too, but since I will be staying in FAT, it's just a question of using
- CPBACKUP to get them and reput them till I don't need to touch D and F I
- shall be OK (F being my partiton containing my Internet news/mail prg
- and storage area).
-
- Thanks for your help and tips, and my apologies if this was long winded.
