  12. I was able to get ahold of FutureComm, who I have previously mentioned as
  13. being another source of the XGA clone board for the ISA bus. The salesperson
  14. said they estimate the price will be (single quantity) $350. The expected
  15. availability will be in febuary 1993.
  16. Apparently the holdup (according to FutureComm) is that INMOS, the maker of
  17. the chipset, is coming out with the final version soon. The presently
  18. available chipset consists of 3 chips, the two XGA chips as go into the MCA
  19. version, plus an add on AT controller chip which is actually an adapter
  20. to glue these chips to the AT ISA bus. The final version will be just 2 chips,
  21. with the ISA control functions built in. The present version is said to not 
  22. be completely reliable on the ISA, the final version will be.
  23. They also mentioned a third chip set, from IIT corp, but said that it was
  24. not %100 percent XGA compatible. More details will surely follow.

  28. Comparing XGA to already available and reliable alternatives such as the S3
  29. chips, the $500 price is simply not justfied. Sure, the people who are 
  30. deperate to get os/2 to run propery will buy the card at that price, but that
  31. is a limited market.
