- I don't have the final answer to this question, but I note that the adaptec
- 1542 manual states that two 1542 cards may operate in the same ISA system
- as long as they are jumpered to different DMA addresses. Since both cards
- would perform bus mastering, this implies that it is indeed possible.
- In fact, since the reason for the adaptec to perform bus mastering is to get
- around the built - in DMA's speed limitations, one wonders why the card needs
- to be jumpered for the DMA request lines (which normally request the
- motherboard to perform the DMA). I'll speculate here: perhaps adaptec is
- using the onboard DMA's to arbitrate the request, then taking over the bus
- when DMA in progress occurs ?
