- For reasons I won't go into here, I badly needed to rescue some
- files on my hard disk (formatted under HPFS). The shareware
- utility I tried didn't even find the files, let alone recover
- them. Gammatech's Undelete found and undeleted my files quite
- handily. For that, if nothing else, I am thankful to them for
- stopping me from closely considering razor blades or gazing
- wistfully at the ground below my 12th story apartment.
-
- The utilities installed nicely, with a minimum of fuss. The
- optimization is configurable, and the on-line documentation
- explains clearly why its defaults are set the way they are, and
- under what circumstances are appropriate for you to change them.
- (I haven't noticed any performance changes, but then my disk was
- pretty well optimized anyways).
-
- It's file finding utility works quickly and easily.
-
- So far, it's been difficult for me to find any fault with it. It
- doesn't have the polish or the Swiss-army knife flexibilty of
- the Norton Utilities for DOS, for example. The documentation that
- comes with the package is skimpy in the extreme. When I saw the
- single stiff-paper reference guide that came with the single
- floppy disk, my first reaction was "I paid umpteen grupniks for
- this!". However, the on-line documentation is seemingly complete,
- and they give you enough information and warnings to get you out
- of a sticky situation such as I was in. However, I imagine that
- the price will come down as competitors come on the market. Whenever
- that is.
-
- If I come across any other notable benefits or faults, I'll post
- them. At the moment, I can only grovelling give a thousand
- thanks for Gammatech's Undelete.
