  12. For reasons I won't go into here, I badly needed to rescue some
  13. files on my hard disk (formatted under HPFS). The shareware
  14. utility I tried didn't even find the files, let alone recover
  15. them. Gammatech's Undelete found and undeleted my files quite
  16. handily. For that, if nothing else, I am thankful to them for
  17. stopping me from closely considering razor blades or gazing
  18. wistfully at the ground below my 12th story apartment.

  20. The utilities installed nicely, with a minimum of fuss. The
  21. optimization is configurable, and the on-line documentation
  22. explains clearly why its defaults are set the way they are, and
  23. under what circumstances are appropriate for you to change them.
  24. (I haven't noticed any performance changes, but then my disk was
  25. pretty well optimized anyways).

  27. It's file finding utility works quickly and easily.

  29. So far, it's been difficult for me to find any fault with it. It
  30. doesn't have the polish or the Swiss-army knife flexibilty of
  31. the Norton Utilities for DOS, for example. The documentation that
  32. comes with the package is skimpy in the extreme. When I saw the
  33. single stiff-paper reference guide that came with the single
  34. floppy disk, my first reaction was "I paid umpteen grupniks for
  35. this!". However, the on-line documentation is seemingly complete,
  36. and they give you enough information and warnings to get you out
  37. of a sticky situation such as I was in. However, I imagine that
  38. the price will come down as competitors come on the market. Whenever
  39. that is.
