- Well, I have a Gateway 2000 4DX2-66V with the Local Bus Version of the ATI
- Ultra Pro, and the upgrade to 2 megs RAM and 24 bit color.
-
- 1) 24 bit color does work in 800x600 mode, although the Windows Drivers for
- this mode are still in development.
- 2) No, there is no 1024x768x24 mode, as this cannot fit within the 2 meg limit
- for the card.
- 3) No.
- 4) The Display quality is nice and sharp in the 800x600 mode.
- 5) Damn fast.
-
- The ATI Ultra Pro has the potential to be a groundbreaking graphics card, but
- has not reached that step yet. The release of this card is premature. The
- Windows drivers have bugs in them, some of them merely annoying, but some of
- them quite serious (who needs to print, anyway????) But the card is quite
- fast. In its mach 32 mode, in After Dark, the toasters streak across my
- monitor, leaving ghost trails, but when I switch to mach 8 or 8514 modes (ATI's
- previous generation of cards), the toasters take a more leisurely stroll. I
- would recommend this card for you, except the drivers are just too buggy. I
- would say you should wait a month or so, until ATI releases drivers that
- actually work. Otherwise, the only thing I could tell you is 'Good Luck.'
