- I bought Superstore 2X bundled with DR-DOS, and have had nothing but
- troubles. I have an Irwin tape backup, so I backed up the partition,
- Superstored it, and the process died part-way through, I Superstored a
- blank partition and tried to restore my backup. I spent a week sending
- faxes, sending in a copy of the bad partition, etc. At that time
- dealing with their tech support was like dealing with a black hole. I
- left messages that weren't returned, etc. I finally gave up, and the
- problem was never fully resolved. I was able to partially restore the
- partition, but I have never trusted the package fully, and no longer
- use it.
-
- I believe you can recreate the problem, though I haven't tried it
- recently, just sstor a 40 Meg blank partition and install Borland C++
- 3.1. I actually pinpointed it down to a 1 Meg partion that was
- guaranteed to work fine until you tried to compress it further, then
- it would blow up. I sent this to them on a floppy disk.
-
- In addition, my father lost his sstored disk (multiple crosslinks,
- followed by a blank disk).
-
- You would be better off investing in a cheap tape drive.
-
- If you insist on using a compression scheme, first call their tech
- support and see if they can answer some simple questions, remember
- that if a partition goes down, your computer will be down until you
- get through to them.
