- I've noticed that hardly anyone mentions Delphi when they talk about online
- services. I use Delphi and Compu$erve. I've tried AoL, GEnie, and ProdGee.
-
- Delphi wins, period.
- It does have an old style interface (if you use internet and the vax, or
- unix, ie, if you are logged onto a system and you're sitting there reading
- THIS post, then you can use Delphi). And there are front end
- programs (both DOS and Windows) you can download to autoread, and allow
- offline message stuff etc..
-
- Main difference is what you get for your dollar. On Compu$serve the interest
- groups are extra bucks and cost the extra for downloading files, etc. On Delphi
- almost everything is for the flat rate, SIGs, conferencing, downloads, bunches
- of stuff. You can get Delphi for varying rates but I use the 20/20 plan of
- 20 HOURS use for $20. Compare that to Compu$erve's $7.95/mo basic access BUT
- $12.80 an hour for any of the stuff that Delphi gives you in basic such as
- forums, conference, databases.
-
- Why do I post this. One months bill from Compu$serve, that why. I spent just
- a bit of time downloading some gifs, and joining the science fiction SIG on CI$
- and was charged nearly $65. CI$'s charge for 20 hours in science fiction SIG
- is $7.95 + 20(12.80) = $263.95. Delphi's rate for 20 hours in the SF SIG is
- $20.00, period. Go figure. :)
-
- P.S. I don't work for Delphi, I use it.
