- The reason is "tradition"; Version 7 (and probably before, but who can
- remember back that far? :-) gettys and their ilk have always used
- line breaks to cycle between various speeds (I believe it used to
- be supplied as a parameter to /etc/getty when it was invoked from
- the relevant entry in /etc/ttys, but don't quote me on this :-).
