  24. This is not quite correct.  I already sent Evan mail about his question, but
  25. this misinformation deserves a public response.

  27. Linux won't run in an OS/2 VDM because the VDM is in "virtual 8086" mode,
  28. and runs its code in ring 3.  Linux is a full *386* OS and must run from
  29. ring 0, which OS/2 does not and can not permit.  As for OS/2 VDMs in
  30. general, I encourage you to look up "specific DOS" in your manual and
  31. generalize --- it should be possible to run an 8086 operating system in a
  32. Specific quote-DOS-unquote session by following the directions for creating
  33. a Specific DOS booter with your 8086 OS's boot disk.  (Say, early Coherent.
  34. Coherent 4.x won't work, and if 3.x uses 286 protected-mode instructions it
  35. won't work either.  Stock Minix (not the 386 version) should also work.)
