  13. I'm having a couple of rather hindering problems with running linux
  14. at the moment, I would greatly apprechiate any help any one can offer with
  15. either, thanks!

  17. Problem/Question #1:
  18. My hard drive is acting wierd, periodically *well, very frequently* it
  19. displays this messages, then goes back to what it was doing:

  21. HD: write_intr: status = 0xff
  22. HD: write_intr: error = 0xff
  23. controller_read: status = ff
  24. HD-controller reset
  25.  
  26. I have no idea what this means/if I should worry about it or how to correct
  27. it.

  29. Problem #2:
  30. gcc/cc does not like my system at all, it absolutely crawls. I tried
  31. compiling ps and it took 30-45 minutes to compile. I dunno if this is
  32. because of my swap drive, cpu speed, memory, or what. I'm afraid to try
  33. to re-compile the kernel :)

  35. My setup consists of:
  36. 386 33mhz
  37. 2 meg ram
  38. 30 meg linux partition *50% free*
  39. 2 meg swap drive *which linux says is 4?*
  40. the usual floppy drives, keyboard, ect
