  16. I am sure my question has a real simple answer, but I am new to Linux
  17. (unix-like OS') and X-windows so I don't know what to look for.  I've read the
  18. FAQ(s) but so far no luck.  Here is my situation:  I have a basic VGA card (OAK
  19. OTI chipset) so the only X mode I can use is X386mono.  I have had some success
  20. when I attempt load X using one of the ET4000 chipsets, but the screen is
  21. greatly distorted.  However, I can see that Xclock and a Bash window start when
  22. I press one of the mouse buttons.  When I run X386mono - the X pointer appears
  23. on a cross-hatch background and I can move the pointer around, but no programs
  24. start when I press any of the mouse buttons.

  26. I would like to know how to instruct X386mono to startup some apps when it
  27. loads!  I've played around with .xinitrc, but without success.
