  19. I have a problem I'm hoping someone can help me resolve. I've been trying to
  20. install Linux 0.99 on a freind's computer. This machine is a 486 33Mhz with
  21. 16 Megs RAM and a Data Technology Corp. DTC3192 SCSI host adapter with a
  22. Seagate ST3283N drive (250 megs). The problem is that while the kernel on the
  23. a1 SLS distributution disk seems to correctly recognize his SCSI set up, 0.99
  24. doesn't. For that matter, neither did 0.98 pl5. I've noticed in the kernel
  25. sources that support for a number of different adapters is included, but I'm
  26. wondering if they're all compiled into the standard setup.

  28. What I did for now was to create a modified version of the a1 disk and use that
  29. as the system boot disk instead of the one generated by the SLS doinstall
  30. script. This is enough to get the system running for now, but the a1 kernel
  31. doesn't have TCP/IP, which means the current X distribution won't work.
  32. Does anyone know the difference between the a1 kernel and 0.99 that's
  33. responsible for this SCSI card/disk combination not working?

  35. Also, on a related note, I ran into a small snag while trying to compile a new
  36. kernel on his system. irq.c tries to include a file called linux/interrupts.h
  37. which seems to be missing. I have it on my system at home, but I suspect this
  38. is because I had it left over from when I installed the header files from
  39. 0.98 pl5. Can anyone verify that this file is missing from SLS? Better still,
  40. does anyone know where it can be found on the net? Any help or comments would
  41. be greatly appreciated.
