- The next question is *how* to set it up....does it automatically
- detect the AST board and configure itself accordingly? This is basically
- my last hurdle/worry about installing Linux. Everythig else seems quite
- simple to get going...I just want to make sure what is involved with my
- AST board.
-
- It pretty much will detect things and configure itself accordingly; if
- you are using a system where AUTO_IRQ has been disabled, as I believe it
- is on the latest release of Linux (I haven't had a chance to test out
- 0.99 yet, since I'm home in Chicago on vacation), then you need to set
- it up to use IRQ 2 if it is configured to use 0x1A0 as its base I/O
- address, and IRQ 5 if it is configured to use 0x2A0 as its base I/O
- address.
-
- Other than that, it'll simply just work. If you already have another
- serial card, or an internal modem in your system, make sure the dip
- switches which configure two of the AST ports as COM1/COM2 are disabled
- --- otherwise, you will have a conflict. If you don't have any other
- serial cards in your system, it doesn't matter whether you select
- COM1/COM2 emulation or not. It'll just change what /dev/ttysXX devices
- will access the ports on your AST FourPort.
