- I am experiencing some problems with useradd in SLS Linux .99 (I'll
- upgrade to patchlevel 1 soon but I don't think that's the problem)
- The new users created do not seem to be fully "legitimate"
-
- When trying a whoami they get the message "cannot find username
- for UID xxx"
-
- Only root seems to be able to use mail "username" without causing
- a segmentation fault
-
- Minicom tells anyone other than root that "you don't exist go away"
- and whenever root tries to use it, it complains that it cannot make a
- default file and dies
-
- Ls -l does not correctly identify ownership for these new accounts
- and reports them as owned by userid.
-
- Any ideas? I've currently got Linux as my only OS for break
- (kermitting in from home) and I'd like to get it stable soon (I've
- only had it since sunday so it's not too bad yet)
-
- I also tried to rebuild the kernel using the instructions in the
- README in /usr/src/linux and it seemed to have several "file not
- found" errors (and yes I did add the specified softlinks) and seemed
- to choke on building the iso9whatever file systems even though I
- specifically told it in make config that I didn't want SCSI or sound
- (which also generated some kind of error message)
