  12. I am experiencing some problems with useradd in SLS Linux .99 (I'll
  13. upgrade to patchlevel 1 soon but I don't think that's the problem)
  14. The new users created do not seem to be fully "legitimate"

  16.    When trying a whoami they get the message "cannot find username
  17. for UID xxx"

  19.    Only root seems to be able to use mail "username" without causing
  20. a segmentation fault

  22.    Minicom tells anyone other than root that "you don't exist go away"
  23. and whenever root tries to use it, it complains that it cannot make a
  24. default file and dies

  26.    Ls -l does not correctly identify ownership for these new accounts
  27. and reports them as owned by userid.

  29.    Any ideas? I've currently got Linux as my only OS for break
  30. (kermitting in from home) and I'd like to get it stable soon (I've
  31. only had it since sunday so it's not too bad yet)

  33.    I also tried to rebuild the kernel using the instructions in the
  34. README in /usr/src/linux and it seemed to have several "file not
  35. found" errors (and yes I did add the specified softlinks) and seemed
  36. to choke on building the iso9whatever file systems even though I
  37. specifically told it in make config that I didn't want SCSI or sound
  38. (which also generated some kind of error message)
