- (I don't know if this is an appropriate place to post this
- question; it appears to be the most likely newsgroup to me.)
-
- I am looking for computer hardware and/or software to help
- a learning handicapped child. As a result of a stroke he
- had as a baby, parts of the child's brain were damaged. He
- is unable to read or write, and the brain damage suffered
- makes it extremely unlikely that he can learn these skills.
- Despite this, he is still reasonably intelligent and can
- communicate effectively through speech.
-
- I know there are hardware/software packages on the market
- which allow handicapped people to verbally give their computer
- commands, and if anyone has any recommendations on specific
- products it would be appreciated.
-
- I don't know if any of the following type of systems exist, but
- if so, your input is appreciated:
- + A verbal dictation system which could allow spoken word
- to be translated/transferred into a word processing
- system.
- + Audible interaction and feedback to the user. (As I
- pointed out previously, the child cannot read; even if a
- voice recognition input system could be used, without
- audio feedback to him, it would not be of any use.)
-
- Please e-mail responses to me, or post if more discussion by
- others would add to your response. Thanks in advance for your
- assistance.
