- With the assistance of a more-knowledgeable friend and a copy of the
- elm documentation, I've set up a number of filter rules to save
- incoming mail to appropriate folders. This is an excerpt from my
- ~/.elm/filter-rules file, generated by filter -r:
-
- Rule 1: if (from = "MAC-L") then
- Save /acs/top/3/dnmiller/Mail/macintosh
-
- Rule 2: if (from = "Baltic") then
- Save /acs/top/3/dnmiller/Mail/balt-l
-
- Rule 17: if (from = "hungary") then
- Save acs/top/3/dnmiller/Mail/hungary
-
- Rule 19: if (from = "perform-l") then
- Save acs/top/3/dnmiller/Mail/perform-l
-
- Rules 1 and 2 work fine, but rules 17 and 19 do not. Mail is left in
- the general queue, and ~/.elm/filterlog reports the following:
-
- Mail from perform-l@ACFcluster.NYU.EDU about live and live again
- by rule #19
-
- Mail from MAC-L%YALEVM.BITNET@OHSTVMA.ACS.OHIO-STATE.EDU about Re: Prodigy
- SAVED in file "/acs/top/3/dnmiller/Mail/macintosh" by rule #1
-
- Mail from Baltic about BALT:3076 News 9 December (as from RFE/RL)
- SAVED in file "/acs/top/3/dnmiller/Mail/balt-l" by rule #2
-
- Mail from HUNGARY%UCSBVM.BITNET@OHSTVMA.ACS.OHIO-STATE.EDU
- about Re: Criteria of Meaning (was: Jewish Issues and Mora
- by rule #17
-
- Can some wise soul tell me what is happening here? Why do rules 1 and 2
- work? Rules 17 and 19 seem somehow to be recognized by elm, but not acted
- upon.
-
- I'm hoping to leave on vacation before long, have plenty of disk storage
- space so would prefer not to set nomail or otherwise stop the flow of
- messages, but shudder to think what the local system administrator would
- do with a week's worth of accumulated, unread mail.
-
- Many thanks in advance for any assistance.
