  16. It is never appropriate to crosspost between foo.bar and foo.misc, for
  17. any values of foo and bar.  .misc groups are specifically for things
  18. not falling in any of the other available subgroups.  Since this isn't
  19. a programming-language question anyway, the whole comp.lang hierarchy
  20. is inappropriate.  I'm cross-posting to comp.sys.misc and pointing
  21. followups there.

  28. Take it to the appropriate machine- and/or OS-specific group.  Since
  29. you didn't give any information about what sort of PC, it's impossible
  30. to answer anyway.  (If you had posted to an appropriate group, like
  31. comp.sys.mac or comp.sys.ibm.pc or comp.sys.sun or whatever, this
  32. information, or at least some of it, would have been provided by your
  33. choice of group.)

  38. If the machine really does have a speaker, you might consider disabling
  39. it by electrical means, such as cutting (one of) the wires leading to
  40. it, or if the electronics are touchy, replacing it with a resistor of
  41. the appropriate resistance (eg, 8 ohms).  Assuming, of course, that
  42. it's not a leased machine or anything similar. :-)
