  13. This is just a short progress report on the Demacs FAQ, since alot of
  14. people haven't seen it ever, and the rest of you haven't seen it for
  15. awhile.

  17. About 2 months or so ago (or longer), I made extensive changes to the
  18. Demacs FAQ.  I had this broad scheme as to what it was going to
  19. finally look like in its overhauled state, and was no more than
  20. a day or two from completing and posting it.

  22. A few things happened in that time.  One, I was corresponding with a
  23. number of people and accidently erased a directory full of
  24. correspondance.  This was somewhat of a major setback, as you can
  25. imagine.
  26.  
  27. Next, my coursework increased, and I no longer had the time to finish
  28. the FAQ, which I then had estimated to be only 2-3 days.  After a
  29. couple weeks of heavy coursework, it became apparent that I wasn't
  30. going to have time to finish the new FAQ for another couple of weeks,
  31. so I posted a slightly modified version of the previous release.

  33. In fact, I'd repost that again now, but I accidently erased my
  34. outgoing mail directory (where the modified FAQ was) when I rewrote my
  35. mail system to keep me from accidently erasing important mail anymore.
  36. Plus, thinking I would never erase my outgoing mail system, I hadn't
  37. made any backups.

  39. Anyway, my last class of the semester ended yesterday.  I also managed
  40. to print out most of my collected Demacs material before the computer
  41. building shut down today.  I will be looking over it this week, and
  42. probably trying to resume old correspondances, and start new ones by
  43. the end of the week when I get back from a short computer-less
  44. christmas holiday at my parents house.

  46. If you've sent me mail, and I haven't replyed to it by January 4th,
  47. send me mail again because I probably lost it.

  49. Also, I will not be reposting the FAQ until I've finished revising it,
  50. although I am looking for people willing to beta-test changes to the
  51. installation program, and possibly proofread or make suggestions about
  52. the FAQ itself.  This will speed up the process dramatically.

  54. Lastly, the people in Japan who did the Demacs port will be releasing
  55. a new version in the upcoming months.  It will, however, be written in
  56. Japanese, and I don't know how long it will take to translate it into
  57. an English version.
