  21. Yes, and this is greatest joke of all on Californians. The activists
  22. won the Caller-ID battle here by convincing the brain-dead CPUC to put
  23. all kinds of restrictions on any CNID offering. Pac*Bell just days ago
  24. announced that it was, in effect, giving up on any Caller-ID in
  25. California.

  27. But what people do not understand is that those preciously private
  28. telephone numbers will soon be displayed out of state on a wide scale.
  29. It is only other CALIFORNIANS that will not see the number displayed.
  30. Already, I am told, telephones in Las Vegas display the numbers of
  31. California callers. As AT&T and MCI (Sprint seems to have fallen by
  32. the wayside) rapidly deploy SS7 connectivity to exchanges nationwide,
  33. the CLASS services will traverse LATA boundaries.

  35. This is the best 'gotcha' I have ever seen to hit technophobes.

  42. [Moderator's Note: We seem to be getting some out of LATA Caller ID
  43. messages here now also. Not many yet, but more than this time last
  44. year. Remember the judge in Pennsylvania, who in his wisdom declared
  45. Caller ID was an 'illegal trap and trace device'? I wonder if he'll be
  46. getting after us here in Chicago once SS-7 makes delivery of caller
  47. numbers from Pennsylvania to us a reality?  :)   PAT]
