- Readers here will have seen my recent posts describing problems with
- two portable modems -- the US Robotics Worldport 9600 MNP modem,
- and the Macronix 96-144 modem. Each was about the size of a pack of
- playing cards, or a little bigger.
-
- Neither one seemed to work as it should.
-
- So here is my wish list.
-
- V.32 and V.32bis speeds for data.
-
- At least 9600 bps for fax send and receive.
-
- MS-DOS software for fax send and receive.
-
- MNP4 and 5, and V.42 and V.42bis.
-
- Shirt pocket size, more or less.
-
- Lots of LEDs including EC.
-
- Sensible design, long warranty, my choice of battery or AC adapter.
-
- Lots of contented users.
-
- With that wish list, what can people recommend?
-
- So far I have had one suggestion -- the Multi-Tech Systems
- MT1432Mu modem, said to list at $900 and to street at $549.
-
- Any comments on that modem? Any suggestions of other modems?
-
- Thanks in advance. If people would find it interesting, let me know
- and I will summarize the reponses.
