  11. When connecting hayes compatible modems to UNIX systems where the modem is
  12. to be used bidirectional (both call in and call out) how can one configure
  13. the system to avoid problems with the response codes and (uu)getty.

  15. With hayes compatible modems you can't disable the "RING" and "CONNECT" mesgs.
  16. on incomming calls without disabling all response codes, or can you ?

  18. The problem then is that "RING" activates (uu)getty which sends out
  19. "(something..)login:". This activity on the DTE side while call up on the
  20. other side confuses the modem so that it only "picks up the receiver" but
  21. gives no answer tone to the caller.

  23. You can't just disable all response codes because then "OK" is missing
  24. when calling out from DTE.
