- Sounds like you're having the same problem I've had with my Supra. It
- seems to make a LOT of bad decisions about retraining and renegotiating
- when you try to connect at lower speeds or if you connect at 14.4 and have
- line noise. I believe its line quality monitoring routines are screwed up.
- I've found that if I disable auto-retrain/line monitoring (%E0), I don't
- have this problem any more. I found this out by using the link diags in my
- USR DS/16.8K (the modem I was using to test with... REAL solid modem). The
- USR doesn't request any retrains, but ends up granting a BUNCH (with many
- block errors) and then (usually after a painful period of LD time) the
- Supra dumps me. The same is true when I dial up another Supra with my
- Supra. Retrains with errors out the wazoo until death do us part over LD
- connects that aren't free of noise (I've found I have less problems with
- my Supra if I select an AT&T line from home... you know, 10288.....).
