- I've got an external modem, with a front-display LCD readout. The display
- is mounted perfectly vertically, which makes it difficult to read unless the
- modem is fairly close to eye level.
-
- I had previously mounted the modem on the wall, using a shelf-bracket bolted
- to the chassis of the unit. This caused no problems whatsoever, but, as I
- had it attached quite securely, it was inconvenient when I needed to take the
- unit aparat to swap in an EPROM upgrade.
-
- My computer system resides on part of a modular furniture unit (from IKEA, a
- scandinavian furniture chain), and I plan to pick up some more pieces for it
- so that I can put in a shelf above my monitor and place the modem closer to
- eye level permanently.
-
- For the time being, I have placed the modem atop one of my stereo speakers.
- The speaker is a small "bookshelf" sized unit.
-
- Not being a whiz when it comes to radio interference, electronics, and the
- effect of radio waves on ROMs and such, I'm wondering whether this is a bad
- idea. If it _is_ a bad idea to have the modem right on top of the speaker,
- I'd also be interested in knowing how far from the speaker (or other RFI
- sources - monitor, etc) it should be for optimal safe operation.
-
- I am _presuming_ modems are fairly restant to such interference - after all,
- there are internal modems, which put up with all the radio waves bouncing
- around inside PC's.
-
- Anybody more informed on this?
