  25.    I've never seen a 16-bit dumb serial card.  The $400+ intelligent 
  26. (coprocessed) multiserial cards come in 16-bit versions, and you can get 
  27. serial I/O built into a super I/O cards that has a 16-bit interface for an IDE 
  28. adapter, but UARTs are 8-bit devices and don't profit from 16-bit cards.

  35.    To get the most data through with the least connect time, transfer it in 
  36. compressed form (.ZIP or whatever).  Even a 14.4 kbps modem doesn't need 
  37. higher than 19200 bps to get the best ZMODEM throughput possible on 
  38. precompressed files.

  40.    The 16550 should help your PC live with higher DTE rates, but that will 
  41. onbly make a difference when sending uncompressed info such as text.
