  11. whether to get a leased or a private line.

  28. All of whom advised that the Private line would work fine for what I wanted 
  29. to do with it.

  33. Anyway I opted for a PLNA circuit with automatic ringdown at both ends.  
  34. So far it has worked without a hitch. All I needed to do was make minor 
  35. changes to one of my UUCP config files, to remove the dial sequence, and
  36. set the modem to do a blind dial.

  39.   I learned quite a bit about the 'lingo' used in in telecommunications, and
  40. I met a lot less resistance once I spoke their language.  The installers were 
  41. also quite pleasant to work with (after I fixed 'em up with coffee and 
  42. doughnuts :-), and they made sure that I had a clean line with a -10.1 dBm
  43. power limit (I'm still not up on all these terms - I have heard it referenced 
  44. as power limit and loss?).  
  45.    These guys have put in over 100 hours this week due to the severe storm
  46. that hit this part of the country - gotta give them credit :-)

  48. The cost is very modest. All I had to invest in was one more Telebit 
  49. T2500 modem, plus the installation charges for the private line, which came 
  50. out to less than $900.
