  17. don't know which is true, but I present one fact and one observation:

  19. FACT: When NS discovered a bug in the 16550, the 'fixed' version was called 
  20. the 16550A, not the 16550F.  This does not lead me to believe that National is 
  21. likely to use "F" to indicate 'fixed'.

  23. OBSERVATION: I have never observed any bugs in NS16550AN chips operating in 
  24. interrupt mode.

  26.    There may have been fixes to DMA mode, but you'd need special hardware and 
  27. software to take advantage of this 16550 mode, so it wouldn't affect 99.9% of 
  28. users in this forum.
