- No. The fax and data modem specifications are separate.

- Maybe Toby Nixon can help out on that question and the next one.
- However, I will hazard a guess that the fax protocols are non-error-
- correcting (at least, for the present types)... somebody correct me if
- I'm wrong here, as I would like to know the answer to this one myself.

- One thing you didn't mention when you wrote your post was what fax
- software you were using to try to talk to your office fax. It may seem
- blindingly stupid of me to ask, but was the fax software you were using
- suitable for the Digicom Scout Plus?

- This is because it's assumed the controlling software will handle the
- niceties of Class 1 (or whatever class the DSP is) operation, and there's
- a lot of them. The standard disclaimer with fax modems is that it's too
- complex for you to diddle with; if you have, as they say in the defense
- industry, a need to know, please see the ANSI/EIA/TIA Standard document
- "Asynchronous Facsimile DCE Control Standard EIA/TIA-578." At least,
- that's what it says in my PPI fax modem documentation, and I'll bet your
- Digicom docs have something similar.
