- the best way is to have some nag, and some no nag.
- nag is a reminder, not a sure way to get people to register.
- it would be appropriate to flash a message before the program begins,
- say for 2 seconds and not 10 seconds! and maybe another message at the
- end of the program execution, of say 2 seconds also. this reminds me of
- the boyan communication package.
-
- however, if authors should think that excessive nag would get people to
- register, they are wrong! i remember gifv32.zip and others. you type in
- a line like "i cheat" and then another line of something. now when you
- quit the program, you have to go through this all over again. i don't have
- the time or the patience for this. i know the program is shareware, and i
- am expected to register it after a trial period. but until that trial period
- is over, i don't want to be nag by it.
-
- the best solution is to do it like fastbucks. there is no limitations or nag
- whatsoever. however, when the trial limit is up, the nag comes on every
- minute or so. this is justified. now you might say, the user could always
- load a fresh copy. well now, there is no way in the world for you to get this
- person to register in the first place! the people who do feel guilty
- afterwards, or becomes annoyed at having to load another copy (like me)
- will go out and register it. you offer a quality product, and people who
- really like it, will eventually register it, sooner or later. you win.
- see! now get rid of all those excessive nags. i for one, will not
- examine those programs twice! there are better ones out there!
-
