- can.domain newsgroup <> candom mailing list
- -------------------------------------------
-
- Acting on requests to impliment a mechanism to ensure that those without
- access to News can fully participate in can.domain, I've installed a bi-
- directional news<>mail gateway for the can.domain newsgroup.
-
- You are _strongly_ encouraged to obtain this newsgroup via USENET NEWS
- mechanisms vrs mail. Anyone having difficulty arranging a news feed for
- this newsgroup is welcome to email the undersigned and I'll do my best
- to help. We also offer all required software in source code form via
- anonymous FTP and UUCP, as do many archive sites. If, after having
- explored all options, you are still unable to receive can.domain as
- news, you may subscribe to the mailing list.
-
- The can.domain newsgroup is bi-directionally gated to a companion mailing
- list, so anyone not having access to NEWS but who does have a UUCP or
- Internet mail feed can still participate fully using email. Mailing
- list subscribers should send their subscription request to:
- candom-request@xenitec.on.ca
- including a valid, reacheable email address in the message body:
-
- Add: your_logname@site.do.main -or-
- Add: your_logname%your.obscure.subdomain@everyone.can.reach.here
- Add: up!stream!yoursite!your_logname
-
- Examples:
- Add: edhew@xenitec.on.ca
- Add: edhew%xenitec.on.ca@uunet.ca
- Add: ....!uunet.ca!xenitec!edhew
-
- Inclusion of an alternative working bang-path relative to a well know
- major functional site might prove beneficial. Deletions are handled
- the same way, simply substitute "Delete:" for "Add:", ensuring that
- you use the exact same address you subscribed with. If you don't receive
- an acknowledgement within a few days, check your routing and try a test
- message via xenitec.on.ca back to your host. In such cases, it's likely
- that someone, somewhere, is bouncing mail replies to you (and would do
- the same with mailing list traffic), and you'll want to resolve your
- connectivity problem before trying to subscribe again. Mailing list
- subscriptions are free, subject to whatever arrangements you may have
- with the site(s) feeding you.
-
- Should you receive no response or experience a sudden and prolonged
- drop to zero volume on the mailing list, this indicates that we are
- no longer able to find a working route to your site. We loose a
- handful of subscribers on various mailing lists this way each month.
- If this happens to you, please email us your known working bang-path
- relative to a major site.
-
- Mailing list administrivia should be sent to:
- candom-admin@xenitec.on.ca
- Note that use of the "-admin" address for subscription and deletion
- requests will likely result in a processing delay. This address is
- for administrative correspondence only.
-
- Postings to be gated to the newsgroup should be addressed to:
- candom@xenitec.on.ca
- and they will be automagically injected to the newsgroup. Of course,
- all newsgroup articles will be expanded to the mailing list.
-
- What's in the newsgroup and mailing_list:
-
- can.domain: Discussion of policies and procedures relevant to
- registration under the .CA domain, and the new technologies
- that might impact the use of the name space and supporting
- infrastructure. This newsgroup also provides the CA Domain
- Registry Committee with the opportunity to interact with
- the Canadian USENET community to seek consensus on
- desireable and technically feasible policies respecting the
- use of the CA namespace.
-
- The CA Domain Introductory materials, Application form,
- and various informational articles will be periodically
- posted to can.domain. New .CA subdomain registrations will
- be posted as they are approved.
