- WINSTON R. HINDLE, JR., NAMED TO HEAD DIGITAL'S
- OFFICE OF ETHICS AND BUSINESS PRACTICES

- MAYNARD, Mass. -- December 23, 1992 -- Robert B. Palmer, president
- and CEO of Digital Equipment Corporation, announced today that
- Senior Vice President Winston R. Hindle, Jr., has accepted
- responsibility for the company's newly created Office of Ethics and
- Business Practices.

- In his new position, Hindle will continue to report to Bob
- Palmer and will focus on customer needs and the corporation's global
- business practices.

- "The Office of Ethics and Business Practices was created to
- ensure that Digital operates well within both the letter and spirit
- of the requirements in each country where we do business," said
- Palmer. "Win's work will assure that the behavior of our employees
- exemplifies the company's core values and the highest standards of
- business ethics," Palmer continued. "In addition, Win will provide
- leadership in our effort to integrate a total quality management
- philosophy in everything we do."

- Hindle, 62, joined Digital in 1962 as assistant to the
- president. In his 30 years with the company, he has held a series of
- management positions, which have included responsibility for
- Marketing, Information Systems, Planning, Business Units,
- Communications, and Security. He was named vice president, group
- manager in 1967, and vice president, Corporate Operations in 1978.
- In 1986, he was named senior vice president.

- Hindle holds a bachelor of arts degree in Physics from Amherst
- College and a master of science degree in Industrial Management from
- the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of
- Technology (MIT). Prior to joining Digital, he directed the
- Industrial Liaison Program at MIT.
