  22.            WINSTON R. HINDLE, JR., NAMED TO HEAD DIGITAL'S
  23.                OFFICE OF ETHICS AND BUSINESS PRACTICES

  26. MAYNARD, Mass. -- December 23, 1992 -- Robert B. Palmer, president 
  27. and CEO of Digital Equipment Corporation, announced today that 
  28. Senior Vice President Winston R. Hindle, Jr., has accepted 
  29. responsibility for the company's newly created Office of Ethics and 
  30. Business Practices.

  32.     In his new position, Hindle will continue to report to Bob 
  33. Palmer and will focus on customer needs and the corporation's global 
  34. business practices. 
  35.  
  36.     "The Office of Ethics and Business Practices was created to 
  37. ensure that Digital operates well within both the letter and spirit 
  38. of the requirements in each country where we do business," said 
  39. Palmer. "Win's work will assure that the behavior of our employees 
  40. exemplifies the company's core values and the highest standards of 
  41. business ethics," Palmer continued. "In addition, Win will provide 
  42. leadership in our effort to integrate a total quality management 
  43. philosophy in everything we do."

  45.     Hindle, 62, joined Digital in 1962 as assistant to the 
  46. president. In his 30 years with the company, he has held a series of 
  47. management positions, which have included responsibility for 
  48. Marketing, Information Systems, Planning, Business Units, 
  49. Communications, and Security. He was named vice president, group 
  50. manager in 1967, and vice president, Corporate Operations in 1978. 
  51. In 1986, he was named senior vice president.

  53.     Hindle holds a bachelor of arts degree in Physics from Amherst 
  54. College and a master of science degree in Industrial Management from 
  55. the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of 
  56. Technology (MIT). Prior to joining Digital, he directed the 
  57. Industrial Liaison Program at MIT.
