  19. Yes, it's that time of the year to review anything and everything
  20. in sight and sound. 1992 has been the year for R(A) movies (with
  21. 15 shown at the Singapore International Film Festival alone).
  22. Cathay and Shaw organisation have listed their top box office
  23. hits of the year and guess which ones have made it big here? For
  24. Shaw, it was the Unbearable Lightness of Being and for Cathay,
  25. it was The Lover. Both definitely R(A). For the rest of the list,
  26. which also includes Chinese films, wait a few more paragraphs.

  28. For those who have not seen Once Upon A Time in China II, you
  29. don't know what you are missing. Never a dull moment, Tsui Hark
  30. has created a brilliant masterpiece with amazing stunts and
  31. heart-stopping acrobatics by Jet Li who plays legendary martial
  32. arts exponent Wong Fei Hung. Cinematography was great too.

  34. Speaking of cinematography, one depraved technician tried to
  35. produce his own R(A) film inside a fitting room in Metro Paragon!
  36. The peeping tom stole into one of the fitting rooms (used by both
  37. men and women) and aimed his video camera (hidden in a plastic
  38. bag with a hole in it) under the partition that separates his
  39. room from his victims. He was discovered by a 19 year old
  40. student, Claire, trying on a pair of jeans, who fortunately was
  41. not filmed. She noticed the plastic bag and called for help. He
  42. was caught by Metro staff but later released when Claire did not
  43. file a police report. She got the tape from the Metro security
  44. office and had a shock watching what the guy had already captured
  45. - 25 minutes' worth of women undressing. Aaargh!

  47. But the 21 year old guy was so upset that he broke down after he
  48. saw the news about his peeping affair splashed across The New
  49. Paper. He confided in his girlfriend who later told his mum what
  50. happened. Mum called up TNP and said he has been depressed since
  51. June. He promised not to do it again, admitting that it was a
  52. stupid thing. Reminds me of Matlock where the murderer always
  53. confesses to his crime in court. Didn't think it would happen in
  54. reel, I mean, real life.

  56. OK, back to more tasteful stuff. News on makan places have been
  57. trickling in. A big thank you those who took time to tell us
  58. about that special place in your heart and tummy. And for those
  59. who are yearning for some succulent roast pork ribs, here's an
  60. easy recipe for your New Year's Eve Party by local cuisine
  61. consultant Lily Mok (from 8 Days, #116).

  63. Ingredients:
  64. 1 kg pork ribs
  65.  
  66. Seasoning:
  67. 300g shallots, minced
  68. 1 1/2 tbsps coriander powder
  69. 2 tbsps lime juice
  70. 2 tbsps dark soy sauce
  71. 5 tbsps sugar
  72. 2 tbsps salt
  73. 1 tbsps pepper

  75. Method:
  76. 1. Mix all seasoning ingredients well. Rub over pork ribs and put
  77. aside for at least six hours.

  79. 2. Pre-heat oven to 300F. Roast pork ribs to a deep brown colour.

  81. 3. Serve with plain rice.

  83. And for those hungry to know which movies were the best sellers
  84. at the box office, here is it. Money figures weren't given
  85. though.
