  11. SYDNEY, Australia (UPI) -- Two Malaysians were sentenced to long jail terms
  12. Tuesday for the murder last year of renowned Australian heart surgeon Dr.
  13. Victor Chang.

  15. The nation was shocked when Chang, 54, who became a national hero as
  16. Australia's leading heart-lung transplant surgeon, was gunned down in a
  17. suburban street last July after a bungled extortion attempt by the two
  18. Malaysians. Chiew Seng Liew, 48, was sentenced to 20 years for Chang's murder
  19. and a further six years for unlawfully detaining Chang for financial
  20. advantage. Philip Choon Tee Lim, 37, was sentenced to 18 years for murder and
  21. a further six years for unlawful detention.

  23. Evidence at their trial showed they planned to kidnap Chang on his way to
  24. Sydney's St. Vincent's Hospital and extort money from him.
