- L>1. We are considering buying bigger server with tape drive included. I have

-
- I've tried Sytos and was somewhat disappointed with it. It was the
- workstation version. Best workstation backup software I've tried was
- from Mountain.
-
- >2. We would probably buy a 500Mb hard drive in server. What size tape drive
- >should I buy?
-
- What can you afford? Go big as servers usually grow (add HD) and it
- is a real pain to stick around at night to swap tapes. :-)
-
- >Is it better to buy a tape drive that would backup the entire
- >server, or to buy a smaller size?
-
- Absolutely. No question about it (if you can afford it.
-
- >I want the backup to be done automatically,
- >and don't understand how you could buy a smaller size without being there to
- >feed in the next tape.
-
- Now you get the idea.
- I've found the best server based software is
- ArcServe from Cheyenne Software. Works with many tape drives and SCSI
- adapters. Handles complete tape library functions. Will archive
- files and prune from server. Will also mirror volumes on different
- servers. Also backs up the workstations.
- I've had luck with WangTek 525MB drive. Also heard Archive 525MB
- drive is good but if it dies, it takes Archive many moons to fix
- (typically heard 3-4 months.) Haven't had the bucks to try the 2.2GB
- drives yet.
