- Subject: VIRSTOP - "Put Disk B in Drive A"
- Lines: 37
-
- We have Novell 3.11 on a 386 file server.
- The workstations have one floppy disk drive and no hard drive.
- We used to boot the workstations from floppy disk.
- When we did that, the autoexec.bat file on the floppy boot disk
- contained this file:
- ipx
- net3
- virstop
- f:
- login student
-
- The above autoexec.bat file drove the students crazy because it caused
- a constant message "Put Disk B in Drive A." Nobody knew what Disk B was.
- I finally removed the virstop.exe command from the autoexec.bat file, but
- I have no virstop program running now (it's a virus interceptor program).
-
- Now we have installed eproms so the workstations boot without floppy disk.
- I had to have someone else install them because I don't know how, and I
- did not know to tell him to remove the virstop command from the autoexec.bat
- file and the virstop.exe program from the floppy boot disk.
-
- I think the problem occurs because you can't run virstop on the same disk
- you boot with -- virstop demands that you switch disks. Since we only have
- one drive, we get the message "Put Disk B in Drive A", which no one under-
- stands.
-
- I have tried putting the virstop command back in the autoexec.bat file
- that now resides on the network drive, but I still get the same message;
- I assume because an exact copy of the boot floppy was put on the network
- drive.
-
- Can you tell me how to make virstop.exe run without prompting for Disk B?
- I don't think I could run the dosgen program that was run when the boot
- roms were installed. The real, updated virstop.exe program resides here:
- g:\apps\f-prot\virstop.exe
-
- Thank you for any suggestions.
