- Darrin,
- Support for the 3C501 board (and others of its vintage) will fade
- away as you are noticing. The reason it that old generation of hardware is
- unsuited to today's more heavily used networks, and the price of modern boards
- is so low that little/no effort goes into supporting the older units. These
- old boards have characteristics which make them undesirable on a fast lan
- so you'd be better off upgrading to currently available boards (at say the
- $150 price level, give or take a little). The NE2000 units are nice and
- inexpensive, but watch out because clones thereof frequently don't get it
- quite right (spend you money once, etc); ditto for the 8-bit NE1000.
- Just as a matter of interest, today ODI board drivers come either
- from the board maker (normal) or a few from Novell. Folks are not writing
- free ODI board drivers.
