  13. This is not the place for a review of the newly published Oxford
  14. Companion to the English Language, but it is not inappropriate to call
  15. attention to it.  All 1200 pages are well in the tradition of Oxford
  16. Reference books, its production is superb, as Oxford books can be but
  17. not always are, and it contains in the Editor's Preface this sentence:
  18.        Without its IBM hardware and Nota Bene software, the project
  19.        would, I suspect, have taken twice as long and may never have
  20.        been finished at all.
