- Question 1: Concerning your PLUSNET stats: how many transactions (refs
- browsed, downloaded, printed, hours of usage) do you log on your CD PLUSNET
- in a month (on the average...)?
- Medline, 1988 forward
- citations browsed 77631
- citations printed 9356
- citations downloaded 3084
- Medline 83
- citations browsed 2978
- citations printed 316
- citations downloaded 527
- Medline 76
- citations browsed 1411
- citations printed 174
- citations downloaded 464
- Medline 66
- citations browsed 778
- citations printed 88
- citations downloaded 356
-
- Nursing, 1983 forward
- citations browsed 8859
- citations printed 1465
- citations downloaded 4
-
- This is the monthly average for 8.5 months with PLUSNET1.
-
- Because of the recent discussion on CDROMLAN, I would have to conclude
- these statistics are on the low side; apparently the cdpstats module does
- not record uses for those who do not log off. I would estimate those users
- at more than 15% (a wild guess).
-
- Additionally we have CD PLUS' MedFive loaded onto a "campus" network. The
- network has 1000+ subscribers, but you must make a special request to have
- the Library CD-ROM Tower available to you via menu selection. Approx. 150
- have done so. There are approx. 8-11 daily uses of CD-PLUS on that system.
- The stats module used on the network does not include citations browsed,
- printed or downloaded.
-
-
- Question 2: Is your entire facility (hospital, academic medical center,
- satellite libraries) networked?
-
- No, our entire medical center (school, research, hospital) is not
- networked. Even if it were, the PLUSNET offerings would not be
- available via the network (due to network incompatibilities). We hope
- this will be addressed and removed as a barrier to access during the
- coming year.
-
- Question 3: Does your PLUSNET configuration support dial access?
- If so,who may dial in?
-
- The week of Christmas we installed PLUSNET2 with 8 dial-in lines.
- We anticipate allowing all Medical Center students, staff and faculty
- dial-in privileges. Additionally we will enable affiliated faculty
- privileges.
-
- Question 4: Where are PLUSNET workstations located?
-
- PLUSNET1 (April-Dec. 1992) workstations were in the library.
- PLUSNET2 workstations are also in the library, supplemented by
- 8 dial-in lines.
-
- Question 5: Do you assess any charges for PLUSNET access? Who must pay?
-
- With PLUSNET1 we charged $5.00/half-hour to anyone not eligible for
- free use. Those eligible for free use include: Medical Center staff,
- faculty, students, affiliated faculty and members of the local medical
- society. It did not include faculty or students from other campuses of
- UMass (Amherst, Lowell, Boston, or Dartmouth).
- Those who have paid to use the system most often include researchers
- from the local biotech companies, entrepeneurs, graduate students from
- other local colleges in the Worcester area. Our statistics show that
- these users account for a very small amount of business, i.e. 289 half-
- hour sessions.
- With PLUSNET2, and dial-in, we are rewriting our policies. We are looking
- at several models for affiliated users. We will also look at the use of
- deposit accounts for traffic by non-affiliateds.
- We also expect to add non-CD PLUS databases to the PLUSNET2. Licensing
- will, as usual, dictate who can use it and the number of concurrent users
- for each database.
