  19. I was struck by the way Richard Rorty situates hermeneutics in relation
  20. to epistemology and other philosophical schools. He said something
  21. (if I got this right) about hermeneutics being less a methodology
  22. competing with other methodologies and more an approach, a way of
  23. *coping* with the world. I think of all this writing and of these
  24. ideas for creating electronic writing environments that are
  25. accessible to students as offering ways for students to increase
  26. their chances of gracefully coping with an increasingly electronic,
  27. information-rich world by giving them experience in the *kind* of
  28. environment they'll be in. I don't *know* that writing is more
  29. important now than it ever was, but I *believe* it is.
