- In brief reply to your correction of my facile writing-off
- conferencing. I was, as you note, referring only to the
- classroom situation--and am still ready to reconsider conferencing
- in the classroom. I know that students make tremendous gains
- when you can sit down with them in a one-on-one situation with
- no time schedule attached. The writing centers, I am sure,
- supply the kind of individual attention writers frequently need.
- Wish we had one here. You of course know the problems with
- starting one. I think I was perhaps suggesting a rethinking
- of the conferencing strategy as a necessary part of the
- classroom.
