  12. We at City College (CUNY) are putting together an electronic component of
  13. our Fluency First program, a FIPSE-funded whole language program for ESL
  14. learners that encourages communicative writing over correctness at the
  15. earliest levels.

  17. I'm toying with names as Eric is.  I like W.E.L.L. (Writing Electronically
  18. to Learn Language), the acronym has the depth I want along with the positive
  19. feeling, but non-acronymically it's a little weak. Oh w.e.l.l.

  21. What we are trying to do is to provide a writing environment through Email
  22. to make students interested in writing. Meaning-driven communication is our
  23. goal to provide incentive for reluctant writers.  Ours is an ESL program
  24. so it is not exactly the same as some of the others described.
  25.  
  26. We are also hoping that Uncle Sam will see fit to fund some of our research.
  27. What better way to spend the break than writing grant proposals?
