  13. Me too, me too. I'm enamored of John's writing intensive online learning
  14. environment so much that I & a few others wrote up a proposal of a
  15. similar sort a couple of months ago.  We call our proposal simply the
  16. "Online Writing Center" but I think John's better.  "Environment" is
  17. better than "center."  We thrust copies of it at anyone who makes the
  18. mistake of appearing interested, so if anybody out there is interested,
  19. don't let it be known unless you want a copy to come zinging at you.
  20. Even threw a copy at the gov'ment, hoping it would see fit to throw
  21. some money back at us. Don't have much hope of that happening, but
  22. we'll keep pressing the issue locally, funding or no (although outside
  23. funding, even a little bit, sure would get the attention of the local
  24. administrators, help chip away at the resistance/disinterest you
  25. mention, Karen).

  27. Who else out there is devising/designing/dreaming about creating new
  28. online environments at your schools?  I know of only one other.  Dawn
  29. Rodrigues and Kathleen Kiefer have written about the evolution of an
  30. Electronic Writing Center at Colorado State  (forthcoming in _Writing
  31. Centers in Context_ eds Joyce Kinkead and Jeannette Harris).  Seems like
  32. I've heard someone else mention the idea on WCENTER, but can't
  33. remember who right now.

  35. Maybe we need to form some sort of coalition to work toward breaking
  36. down resistence and funding qualms at our individual schools.  We
  37. might, as a group, have more credibility than some of us (me, anyway)
  38. have on our own.
