- Our program encourages collaborative learning, group work, lots of student
- input into developing the goals and evaluation criteria for writing
- assignments. One big TA training hurdle is to help TAs overcome the models of
- teaching (teacher centered lecture-discussion) that they know best and to
- adopt student centered methods wherein the teacher attempts to create learning
- experiences for students (ala Hillocks et al.). Teachers have to learn how to
- get students to engage with the course AND WITH EACH OTHER. The kind of
- learning that goes on outseide of class (collaborative) is not, for students,
- the norm inside of class, and bringing inside and outside togther is hard for
- both students and teachers.
