- Japanese news analysts propose that last May's riots in Los Angeles
- were caused by the U.S. patent system.
-
- During a recent visit to Japan, a delegation from the Japan-U.S. Study
- Group of the American Intellectual Property Law Association was told
- that a Japanese television program "created the link that the U.S.
- patent system was the reason for the riots in Los Angeles," according
- to Charles Berman, head of the delegation, as quoted in the National
- Law Journal, Nov. 30, 1992, at page 3,
-
- The National Law Journal article reports that Charles Berman said, "We
- were told that the Japanese recently put a program on TV showing the
- flames of L.A. burning in the background, saying that was caused by
- the U.S. jury system that is 'destroying U.S. law' and is being used
- against companies in patent litigation."
