  25.           Here is an excerpt of the official announcement:

  27.           Date: 15-Dec-1992 9:28am EST

  29.                "Effective January 4, 1992, IMSD (Headquarters) will no
  30.           longer fund access to OCLC for Cataloging and Interlibrary Loans.
  31.           We recognize that OCLC is a valuable service, but due to severe
  32.           budget cuts, we are no longer able to provide this support."
  33.                "...Libraries wishing to fund individual access to OCLC may
  34.           do so..."
  35.                "Effective January 4, 1993, the Headquarters Library hours
  36.           will be reduced to 10:00am to 4:00pm."

  40.                This means that each region must fund the OCLC access and in
  41.           the "middle" of a fiscal year with no advance planning for these
  42.           funds and the paperwork involved.....well...   Don't hold your
  43.           breath!
  44.                I have updated my NAD (EMA) to let people know to call, fax,
  45.           or use an ALA form until further notice.  Effective immediately,
  46.           we are not loaning any materials via OCLC but will provide
  47.           photocopies for requests til Dec. 31, 1992 (our last day of
  48.           access).
  49.                To those of you who have loaned us items, we will be
  50.           returning them with a note that we are unable to update OCLC and
  51.           please complete the transaction (Thank heavens for the new PRISM
  52.           features!!).
