- my boss just brought in the 9 nov 92 issue of federal grants and
- contracts weekly. it describes a BBS operated by the US dept of ed
- for rfps and such. i just tried it out so here is a few pointers not
- mentioned in the article i read.
-
- modem phone: 202-260-9950
- parity: 8N1 (maybe others, did not say).
- baud: 2400 (at least, nothing stated what was max baud.)
- terminal: vt100, ansi, and a few others.
- will query you about display properties if you
- do choose one of the standard types.
- protocols: kermit, x+y+zmodems, sealink, ascii.
-
-
- it has a pretty lame menu system to navigate around. in moving around
- the menus, they do not give a very good picture of what is available. i
- was able to find a file to download which took three trials before their
- kermit and mine got in synch. there is a rudimentary email system to leave
- comments to an unnamed sysop. apparently we will be able to email to other
- users on the BBS if we had some way of knowing who they are. apparently
- 50 minute online limit.
-
- i told the sysop to develop an internet tcp/ip bbs so we could telnet or
- ftp this information. or get 800 number. long distance charges will limit
- useage, especially for exploring resources via download. it would be nice
- if the BBS would also permit email into internet for K-12 users who might
- not otherwise have access to the realworld network.
