  15. I just saw on the TV that a program called "Inside Edition" will show an
  16. episode on Carl Dupree's death at Galluadut two years ago.  The show is
  17. tonight, Dec. 23.  Check your local times.

  19. A little background:  Carl Duree is a Deaf activist on the campus of Gallud{et
  20. and has been encouraging, among other things, better signing skills among
  21. the hearing Campus Security.  In an arguement with an english teacher with
  22. minimal signing skills, she felt threaten by Dupree.  The Security was called
  23. and with less then two classes of signing skills (the minimum required to get
  24. the job), tried to convey to Dupree to leave the Campus.  He left the
  25. classroom to go meet his wife and children so they could leave.  The Security
  26. could not understand him at all.  When Dupree went into the cafe, a different
  27. direction then the edge of campus, they tackled him, put him in a choke hold,
  28. and Dupree fought for his life.  The Officers killed him by breaking his neck
  29. keeping the choke hold on stronger.  Several witnesses told the officers that
  30. Dupree was spelling, "can't breathe, can't breathe."  The Officers ignored
  31. the witnesses testimonies, and in doing so caused the death of a Deaf man
  32. they were hired to protect.

  34. I wonder if the training program there has changed any in light of this
  35. senseless death.  From my research, using chokeholds in Washginton, D.C.
  36. is illegal.  Yet from the newspapers I have read, none of the officers were
  37. fired, or fined, or even arrested.  Yet they will be going to trial.
  38. Go figure.
