  16.     Regarding intelligent buildings, I think there was a book
  17. published by MIT Press in the early-mid 1970's called The
  18. Adaptive House, which discussed user-modifiable structures and
  19. (if my memory is correct) self-adapting structures and materials.
  20. I think there are still quite a few visionaries left in the
  21. Architecture and Urban Studies departments at MIT, so you might
  22. try to get in touch with them.

  24.     There are also a small number of people concerned with
  25. Intelligent Materials, which are essentially adaptive materials
  26. that change their properties in response to changing environments
  27. (like the bones of most vertebrates). I don't know if this group
  28. includes architects and builders; unfortunately I don't have a
  29. good reference or contact for them.
