  16. I am looking for statistics on fine policies at academic libraries.
  17. Has anyone on circplus been keeping track of the respones to the
  18. fines topic. I would also be interested in leads on other places for
  19. collections of fines policies. Of course, it would be nice to the
  20. policies were linked to the effectiveness as measured by return rates
  21. and general protection of the collection. Thanks in advance for any
  22. help.
  23. as input from me, here are the current fines policies from Monmouth
  24. College in West Long Branch, NJ
  25. 10cents per book per day, no cap. does not apply to faculty or
  26. administrators. patrons with overdues over 30 days or bills or
  27. fines over $10 cannot borrow until they settle up. Bills go out
  28. after 3 overdue notices and a bill warning. If unpaid in 30 days,
  29. transcript office freezes transcripts. Grades or graduation are
  30. not affected. Non-affiliated memberships are $100 per year with five
  31. items max out at a time. Reserve items are checked out until closing on
  32. same day. Overdues at $1.00 per day. Bill for out-of-print books is
  33. $40. Faculty with overdues are not fined; borrowing is not suspended.
  34. Bills are sent after 1 year overdue.
  35. As you may note, these policies don't work too well. So I am looking for
  36. other policies. I really value the discussion on this topic that I have
  37. seen in circplus.
